Teaching About Elections

Elections are important.  They influence how policy is made and what direction government takes.  Well prepared and serious voters can make a difference. This page is designed for social work educators and others who want to include material on elections as a part of their courses. The site includes a variety of resources that will help deliver this critical content.

The elements of elections are (1) the candidate, (2) the voters (3) the campaign, (4) the Media (Traditional and New Media) and (5) the funders. Some elections also include ballot issues.  In the United States, we have a large number of elections of varying degrees of importance. Whether you are running for President or the Local School Board, candidates and their campaigns have an important role to play in American Democracy.

What this section does is to provide you with information about adding content on elections to social work courses.  Some of these pages point you to content on elections.  Other pages review instructional strategies. Consider this a work in progress or a living document.
